In 1921, Arthur Frankenberg began designing sculptural bookends in NYC. Three years later, he incorporated under the name Frankart, Inc. and proceeded to create numerouos iconic Art Deco and Art Nouveau pieces. Recreations of his work became popular in the 1970s and 80s, during the Art Deco revival. The most respected and well-known in the reproduction world was Sarsaparilla Deco Designs, founded in 1976 by Les Sackin. This piece, clearly stamped "NYC Sarsaparilla" is a stunning example of the dreamy play of organic form and geometry that has enthralled collectors and the wild-hearted for the past century.
